any schools and colleges in Wales now use Moodle as their Course Management System.

Moodle is what is known as "Open Source" - a programme that may be freely downloaded and used.  It has been developed by the community for the community, mostly by people working in their spare time, although there is a small coordinating core team.

One of the problems here is that some of the users who benefit the most from Moodles' Open Source status do not have an easy method of contributing to the core team. Schools, colleges and universities do not log in and donate, by PayPal, as a matter of course. We want to formalise and simplify this process.

As a form of a national "Thank You" we are trying to raise £75,000 from within Wales, to sponsor another core developer. This modest target should, in the main, be achieved by donations from the sectors that no longer need to pay commercial, per-student fees on an annual basis but everyone can become involved.

Wales will be the first country in the world to show it's appreciation in this way.  We hope others will follow.
